In addition to their agricultural relevance, olive trees are a fundamental feature/part of Umbria in terms of landscape, culture and hydrogeology.
Since ancient times (XIII century), farming on uneven the grounds and steep slopes of Spello, Trevi and especially Campello sul Clitunno, was made possible through the creation of terraces and retaining walls to keep the soil around the plants. These contribute to compose a unique and stunning landscape.
Campello sul Clitunno is also famous for its extravirgin olive oil, and is considered the most important place in Umbria in terms of quality, due to the characteristics of the soil the special micro-climate of a part of its territory.
The MORAIOLO cultivar prevails on these hills. The cold continental climate (which makes it practically impossible for olive fruit fly to attack), together with the characteristics of the soil and the farming techniques (without the use of treatments based on phytodrugs), contribute to the attainment of quality peaks that would be inimitable in any other environment.
