The cultivation of olives in Umbria is an ancient Italian tradition which dates back as far as the Etruscans, who were the first people to grow this fruitful tree. Extra-virgin Olive Oil has become one of Umbria’s primary treasures and the olive grove, its typical characteristic.
The name "Marfuga" comes from our privileged location at the foot of the captivating Marfuga Hills, where the most beautiful and fertile olive groves of the Spoleto Valley grow.

Our family has a 200-year-old tradition of producing olive oil, documented attested by railway transport documents with the Pontifical State Seal which date back to 1817, regarding Olive oil, produced from our own olive groves and sold. Documents from the family archives show that in the early 1900's, my great grandfather Domenico was already transporting our precious nectar in glass damigiane to Northern Italy.

During the agricultural crisis of the 1950's and 1960's, it was the determination and tenacity of my father, Ettore, that kept this rich tradition alive. Working as a bank clerk, his persistence and sacrifice would eventually lead to the purchase of new olive groves and the construction of a new factory in 1976. My father's main goal was to produce an impeccable typical extra-virgin olive oil and he transmitted that same passion-filled skill to me. This proficiency and the high quality standard of our factory are the key to the remarkable success of our products in many well-known gourmet restaurants and shops throughout Europe and the United States.

In 1999, we were among the top 5 olive oils in Umbria according to the Unioncamere. In 2003 our Organic DOP Extra-Virgin Olive Oil was awarded place at the National "Ercole Olivario" contest, and we won third place Umbria DOP Extra-Virgin Olive Oil category at the "Colli Assisi Spoleto" contest.

Last year, my wife Federica and I decided to build a Holiday Cottage. In a typical Umbrian homestead, it comprises five furnished suites and an alluring swimming pool. We can now welcome people who want to witness the different stages of oil production and participate in the tasting, or who would like to visit this beautiful region. We especially recommend the months of October, November and December, when the oil-press activity is at its highest.
